Fabulous Herb Walk with local Herbalist Sarah Atkinson

This recent walk on the Hoad just outside the walls of Ford Park was very well received and everyone felt they had learned a lot -one participant went off to think how to use sheep's sorrel in a desert!

Incredible Edible Ulverston Update

We now have lots of different groups involved in growing food around the town-the Ulverston in Bloom volunteers have planted strawberries and chives in the planters around the town; the Mums and Tots at the Emmanuel Centre are growing food; the Ford Park gardener Sarah is working with three schools; the Ulverston Permaculture Project goes from strength to strength; the Scouts have taken on a very large plot in town to turn into a fruit and veg garden; the Turning Point Allotment is going well, the forest garden is progressing well here at Ford Park; we have been planting meadow flowers with Cumbria Wildlife Trust; we have had a stand for 2 days at the Taste Cumbria Event; the beekeepers are learning lots and we should have a beehive at Ford Park by the end of June and we have a free Herb Walk tomorrow evening....it's also planning time for an Incredible Edible Weekend at the end of June!!!

Planting, Pricking out, Potting on,,,all the Ps!

Have been busy planting out tomatoes, cucumbers, pumpkins, beans, sweetcorn, leeks etc and pricking out and potting on lots of tomatoes, dill, fennel, comfrey, basil, "love in a mist", corncockles ........and lots more. It's a busy time and everything is growing (including the weeds!) We have produce stalls to prepare for with the Taste Cumbria Weekend coming up, Sarah is running gardening courses and we are working with an increasing number of schools too!

In addition the Incredible Edible Ulverston Project is going from strength to strength with a growing number of groups involved and a whole weekend of activities planned for the end of June! Check out Incredible Edible Ulverston on facebook!

More plant and seed swapping

We have another chance to swap seeds and plants on Sunday 18th May from 12 noon to 2pm. Swarthmoor Hall have a plant sale all day so we can cross-post customers and everyone should benefit!

In the Greenhouse

We have a full greenhouse with lots of different tomatoes, including those destined for hanging baskets plus flowering plants for pollinators, herbs, salads, pumpkin plants and even a banana plant. Everyone is busy pricking out and potting on, hardening plants off in the cold frames and then planting out into the veg beds. We have put out lots of tiny leek plants, beans, lettuces and brassicas and have also been harvesting (kale, chard, broccoli, herbs, mixed salad, rhubarb, lettuces etc) for a market stall! Its all go!!
