Ulverston Open Gardens

Lovely sunny day today-we were part of the Ulverston Open Gardens weekend along with 18 other gardens and gardening projects including private gardens, a garden for wildlife which encourages participation from local school children, a garden with a model train and a Permaculture Project. We had a programme of events and lots of visitors including a school group which had a "tasting tour", planted some peas and beans and picked some strawberries!

Volunteers on the job!

Our great volunteers are getting to grips with this busy time of year weeding veg beds, replanting the veg trug with salads and herbs, preparing harvested veg for the produce stall and sowing climbing beans!

First strawberries and Elderflowers!

We have been very busy harvesting chard and mixed salad and rhubarb and lettuces and kale etc but the fruit is coming on well now and tomorrow we will be picking our first strawberries and elderflowers and the blueberries are coming on well! We picked some gooseberries last week and hope one of our volunteers is bringing in a gooseberry tart tomorrow too-all very summery!

New Website for Incredible Edible Ulverston Project and recent developments!

With support from Kay Hebbourn we have launched a new website about the town wide project. This gives a starting point and contact details for people who are interested and makes a useful link to the facebook page which is pretty dynamic! The website is: www.incredibleedibleulverston.org.uk and the facebook page is: Incredible Edible Ulverston.....we are having conversations about food growing and working together across the community all the time!! One of our great development is that Sarah, our head gardener is working with several schools to tell them about the life of a gardener and involving children in growing food!
