Another beautiful day with lots of activity including the completion of a Silver Tree (another artistic bird scarer for the kitchen garden) and the start of painting the numbered stones to guide people around the new Tree Trail

Busy day today! We have put our produce table out, had a test run of our new Tree Trail, had a delivery of wood for our woodworking team and lots of volunteers took part in a winter pruning workshop which resulted in lots of good work in the orchard!

We have two new volunteers who have joined us to learn how to grow vegetables so that they can transform an ugly courtyard where they live and grow vegetables there in pots! Just what this project is all about-today they planted lettuce and kohlrabi under the watchful eye of the scarecrow.

Fabulous scarecrows have been completed while I was away on holiday! The farmer and his wife (seen below) are the brainchild of Kathleen from our "crafty" group. They are excellent and Sarah, our gardener, tells me they are keeping the birds away too!

We have had a visit today from Laura Creen who works for the Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust on their Local Food project at Occombe Garden where they grow fruit, vegetables and flowers in a mixture with education and cooking so there are some similarities with our project! They also have a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) scheme which is is a partnership between farmers and their local community, providing mutual benefits and reconnecting people to the land where their food is grown. After a successful pilot they're expanding to include more members and they also provide their onsite shop and cafe with fruit and veg! Laura came to find out about our project, especially how we recruit and retain such a wonderful group of volunteers!
